Grow Your Own: The Real Local Food Festival
March 24, 2013 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Harvest Farm is excited to participate in the 2nd annual Grow Your Own: The Real Local Food Festival.
Have you always wanted a lush backyard garden? Or perhaps wanted to move a bit farther ‘off the grid’ and grow your own food? Or maybe you just want to support your community and reduce your environmental impact by purchasing locally grown produce, eggs, and meat? Well, all of these topics and more will be addressed at the second annual ‘Grow Your Own – the Real Local Food’ festival at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center. There will be tables, presentations, and workshops covering the how-to’s of vegetable gardening, beekeeping, composting, local food CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture), farmers markets, and local food restaurants. Local farmers and organic gardening educators will be on hand to answer questions and provide you with the tools to get started in your own backyard.
And don’t forget your wee gardeners – there will be children’s activities throughout the day. Crafts, seed planting, Junior Master Gardener activities, and worm composting discoveries will get children excited to dig in the dirt as temperatures get warmer.
Come join Harvest Farm at the festival on Sunday, March 24th, 1-5pm, for all things local. Know where your food comes from, while supporting your community and the Earth all at the same time.
Admission to Grow Your Own and special activities is included in the price of admission to the Center. GEHC members are admitted free.
